@dbattistella@mstdn.ca This indeed. Those No Kings protests in the US are perhaps heartwarming and connecting people who are concerned. But that seems to be all of it.
Meanwhile, their regime has gone full Nazi. Killing migrants, blowing up foreign boats at sea, going after women’s and marginalized’s rights, estranging their allies, starting illegal wars, actively helping their adversaries bombing the shit out of countries that were invaded and they still have to be prosecuted for heinous crimes that they have committed prior coming to power.
No general strike. No occupation of important government buildings. No riots. No takedowns of all the shit that is wrong and unjust. Americans are so indoctrinated to swear loyalty to the flag, that anything else is secondary. Even the freaking Constitution that is now nothing more than some paper that is being trampled upon by the regime and their ultra-violent enforcement. But at least they wave the same Stars and Stripes. So they can’t be that bad, right?
And even then, surely those peaceful Saturday protests and elections set on the highest difficulty to participate, while the high courts and institutions are already compromised, acting in Nazi regime mode, will help the people oust the "administration"!
Oh, they scared now! For sure!

And yes, I am not American and it is easy to write this from the comfort of my chair, thousands of miles away. But we are scared. We have no say and cannot do anything to change what is happening in the US. Our conservative neo-liberal governments are salivating at the possibility to follow the same example as the US totalitarian regime. To strip our freedoms away. To spy on us (looking at you, @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu ) and make everyone obedient worker slaves to any big corporation that manages to bribe their way to EC and EU officials.
The US have a big influence in the world. And what they show us is horrifying and it will (has) cross(ed) the ocean.

@dbattistella@mstdn.ca This somehow has strong "drinking juice while skateboarding" vibes. Protesting I am all for, looting and burning cool old buildings down? Not so much...

And yes, having travelled the US for eight months in the past year, the king is only the symptom, the illness lies much deeper. Probably why there is so (comparatively) little upheaval...

@dbattistella@mstdn.ca doesn't actually say what they're protesting about... what's the McDonalds meal a metaphor for here?

@dbattistella@mstdn.ca For sure, the French are a masterclass when it comes to protests, just ask a dock worker or a trucker.

@dbattistella@mstdn.ca I saw the arsons. It might be similar to the Minneapolis BLM riots.
Endorsed by the media then faded to irrelevance.
The interesting thing is that supposedly the current French student protests are about poor government education services.
In the US, instead, there is an enrollment crisis because no one wants to go.

@dbattistella@mstdn.ca please censor the word fr*nch. i was on a train scrolling through fedi and i saw that uncensored version of the word and started vomiting uncontrollably, dropping my phone. people were going "what the fuck?" until they saw this post on my screen, and immediately began vomiting uncontrollably themselves. there is now a whole train of people vomiting, all because you couldn't censor a slur.
