debian have dropped the patch for php 8.4 but not 8.2 so we said FUCKKIT WE DRIVE and did an emergency move from buster (LTS) to trixie (latest LTS) and guess what there's a secret MASSIVE version jump in dovecot so if you run dovecot be prepared for pain

@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net the updated PHP 8.2 packages for Debian bookworm released a few minutes ago too so for anyone still on that you should be able to just apt update.

key things to know to get basic functionality going again:
they changed all the variable names
(e.g. %u is now %{user} and so on)

here's some stuff you need particularly if your mail install is antique
dovecot_config_version = 2.4.0
dovecot_storage_version = 2.3.0
mail_inbox_path = /var/mail/%{user}
mail_path = ~/mail
mail_driver = mbox
particularly that last one because well lol mbox but DECADES OF ARCHIVES WE ARE NOT FUCKING MOVING OK
