I happened by an a pair of pelicans bathing in the Jordan River Parkway on my bike ride this afternoon.

In ancient Egypt, Henet was a pelican goddess associated with death and the afterlife. She was mentioned in the Pyramid Texts as symbolizing rebirth and protection, including protection against snakes.

A photo of a pair of adult pelicans, who are busy bathing in the Jordan River. These American White Pelicans (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos) are standing near the shore in the foreground in very shallow water, just over their orange webbed feet with the deeper water behind them. With feathers are mostly a snow white, just a little bit of black peeking out from under their folded wings. Their heads are up, with their long, narrow, knobless beaks held near vertically, close to their necks. Green vegetation lines the banks of both sides of the murky green river, which isn't very wide here. Taken along the Jordan River Parkway trail near Midvale, Utah.
