The three monumental bronze swords of Sverd i fjell (“Swords in Rock”) rise from the rocky shore of Hafrsfjord near Stavanger, Norway. Photographed from below, the enormous weathered blades dominate the frame against a clear blue spring sky, with the calm fjord and green landscape visible behind them. The tallest sword represents the victorious King Harald Fairhair, while the two smaller swords symbolize the defeated kings.

Vikings have landed
The bow of a replica Viking ship, in Aalesund harbor, Norway

A replica Viking ship’s dark wooden bow rises prominently from the water in the foreground of Ålesund Bay.
Behind it, colorful waterfront buildings with steep, slate-covered roofs line the calm harbor.
White, salmon, yellow, and pale-blue façades create a vivid contrast with the gray, overcast sky.
The buildings and boats are reflected in the gently rippling water, creating distorted vertical patterns.
The composition juxtaposes maritime heritage with Ålesund’s distinctive historic waterfront architecture.
