Lust for Life was release 49 years ago today so I decided to look up why they chose the cheesy photo for the album cover. It's not all that interesting really, but I saw an article about great opening bass lines:

Spoiler Alert! The greatest opening bass line is from Cannonball by The Breeders. It's an interesting read about how that opening happened.
But Cannonball is an unusual song on The Last Splash because it's musically brilliant, very original, yet it sits on an otherwise pretty poor album.
Yes, the album has some other good songs but nothing of that calibre and in my opinion the album has too many dull songs on it.
If only they'd worked on the rest of the album as much as they did for Cannonball.

Released on this day in 1977, Lust for Life, the second studio album by Iggy Pop, his second solo release and his second collaboration with David Bowie, following The Idiot earlier in the year.

@lydiaconwell@todon.nl cannonball is far outside my zone but i can hear it in my head because it was included on this crazy dutch belgian i don't remember dj mashup album from back in the day, which was infamous in uncountable ways, including for mixing destiny's child into '9 to 5'. dolly's presence in the mix actually caused some other song owners to revoke clearance. their loss
