This is my very favourite place to sit, relax and just enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of nature. Heaven on Earth. The beguiling Duncraig railway station on the line between Inverness and Kyle of Lochalsh… 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

A very serene Duncraig railway station looking over the water to the village of Plockton in the Scottish Highlands. The end of a beautiful summer’s evening with the sun setting with an orange glow in the sky. The station itself is a request stop on the railway line between Inverness and Kyle of Lochalsh, where to board a passing train, you simply stick out your arm to wave it down as you might a taxi.

Der Rua Reidh Lighthouse (Rubha Reidh) steht an der Einfahrt zum Loch Ewe in Wester Ross, Schottland. Er wurde 1908–1912 von David Alan Stevenson erbaut, einem Cousin des Schriftstellers Robert Louis Stevenson und Mitglied der berühmten "Lighthouse Stevensons"-Familie. Der Leuchtturm wurde 1986 automatisiert.

Ein ruhiges, weites Landschaftsfoto aufgenommen am Loch Shiel in den schottischen Highlands in der Morgendämmerung. Ein kleines, weisses Ruderboot liegt am linken Ufer, der Bug ragt leicht aus dem Wasser auf die Uferböschung aus Gras. Der See spiegelt den klaren Himmel wider, der von tiefem Blau im Zenit über ein dunkles Grau in einen leuchtenden, warmen Orange- und Rosaton am Horizont übergeht, wo die Sonne gerade aufzugehen beginnt. Die dunklen Umrisse von Hügeln und Bergen bilden die Horizontlinie. Am rechten Ufer steht ein einzelner, knorriger Baum, der den Rahmen dominiert. Die Szenerie ist friedlich und von weichem, diffusem Morgenlicht erfüllt.

These are the largest examples I've encountered of this fungus, the lower ones were much bigger than dinner plates (about 50cm across).

The first English common name comes from their use as natural fire lighters (nothing to do with a dating website). The fungus also grows in a shape resembling a horse's hoof.

This fungus was growing on a very large, long-dead beech tree.

The topside of the fungus showing an attractive pale brown colour. Both the colour and the texture appearance is reminiscent of cocoa powder. The brown has a darker fringe, then a white outer fringe. The fungus is on a very large, dead beech tree. Underside of the same fungus. The underside is almost uniformly a creamy colour. It is this side that has the spore holes.

Just had a visit from a mother and baby Sika deer, in the garden. Always nice to see the next generation.

A Sika deer hind (top-left) with its fawn (bottom-right). The fawn is continuing to eat, the hind was alerted by me opening the window to take the photograph.
