Yesterday I missed the ‚Leuchtturm’ / ‚lighthouse’ though I had this wonderful long exposure of ‚Faro di Punta Palau‘ (Punta Palau Lighthouse) during sunset. Hopefully you will forgive me the delay of one day?

The photo shows the beach with some rock formations in front of the milky turquoise sea. To the right a lighthouse reaches up into the blue, slightly violet and orange sky. There are some clouds in the sky. In the back the island of ‚La Maddalena‘ is enlightened by the last rays of the setting sun.

Teilkolorierte Schwarzweiss-Aufnahme des Leuchtturms Phare de la pointe d’Agon in der Normandie. Rechts erhebt sich der quadratische, weisse Leuchtturmbau mit einem angrenzenden Gebäudefragment; die Laternenkuppel, das Geländer der Aussichtsplattform sowie die Windfahne heben sich als einziger Farbakzent in leuchtendem Rot ab. An der Galerie der Laterne sind Solarpanels montiert. Im Vordergrund erstreckt sich eine raue Dünenlandschaft mit dunklem Dünengras, kahl verästelten Sträuchern und einem hölzernen Staketenzaun. Ein dramatisch kontrastreicher, dicht mit weissen und dunklen Wolken verhangener Himmel spannt sich über die Szene.

This is a black and white photo in landscape format of a Bulk Carrier ship leaving port and passing a lighthouse located at the end of a breakwater. San Pedro, California (2018). The rippled and silver toned sea water rises from the base of the photo upwards to the one third up level. In the centre of the image is the stern of our medium sized (178m long) bulk cargo ship, underway and moving away from the camera at a slow speed, leaving little wake behind. The vessel is viewed obliquely with the stern and port side in view, with the ship filling a third of the width and a third of the height of the photo and viewed from about 20m away. The ship is riding high in the water with 3m of dark antifouling in view with a lighter toned hull above. The white accommodation and wheelhouse superstructure is close to the stern with a tall rectangular funnel above. Forward are four large cranes spaced evenly on the centreline of the deck. On the stern is the ships name 'LA BAMBA' in large white let

One of my favourite photos featuring a ‘lighthouse’

Ein dramatisch wirkender Himmel in Blau, dicke Wolken rechts, über einer Hügelkette und einem Meeresarm. Von rechts ragt eine Landzunge ins Wasser, darauf steht ein weißer Leuchtturm mit weißen Nebengebäuden und einer weißen Mauer, die vom Restlicht der Sonne beschienen werden. Der winzig wirkende Leuchtturm verdeutlicht die Dimensionen dieser schottischen Landschaft. A dramatic blue sky, with thick clouds on the right, stretching over a range of hills and an inlet. A headland juts out into the water from the right, on which stands a white lighthouse with white outbuildings and a white wall, all bathed in the last rays of the sun. The tiny-looking lighthouse serves to highlight the scale of this Scottish landscape.

This is a black and white photo in landscape format of a rock and snow covered hillside with a large flock of birds in-flight and the top of a lighthouse in the background. Vardø, Norway (2024). In the foreground is a barren, dark and rocky hillside sloping downwards gently from the upper left corner down towards the lower right. Other than some sparse patches of grass: the ground is devoid of any other vegetation or trees. Leftover patches of snow from the long arctic winter are scattered in a small gully that slopes down from the upper left down to the centre of the base of the photo. There is a larger area of snow in the lower right corner of the image. Dominating the photo is a large flock of thousands of birds in-flight and filling the entire overcast sky. The birds are viewed from a distance of five hundred or more metres and are unrecognisable, but appear dark against the bright white cloudy sky. This is a colour photo in landscape format of a large container ship underway and leaving port at sunrise with a tug departing to one side and a lighthouse ahead. Port of Los Angeles, California (2018). Extending upwards from the base of the photo to less than the quarter up level is a calm and mirror like, light blue, harbour water. Stretching from the right edge of the photo, going left and through the centre to towards the right side of the photo is our container ship. The ship is viewed obliquely with the stern and port (left) side in view and is underway from right to left. The ship fills three-quarters of the height of the photo, three-quarters of the width and is viewed from about ten metres away. Only the port side of the stern is in view, the starboard side is beyond the right edge of the image.
