To the left of centre is our cyclist riding his penny farthing, sometimes called a high wheel. The camera is a metre and a half above the ground, aligned towards the cyclist at a distance of three metres and with the cyclist filling three-quarters of the height of the image. The cyclist is in motion from left to right, diagonally across the photo and towards the camera. This is a colour photo in landscape format of a coastal ferry leaving harbour and entering a bank of sea fog. Harstad, Norway (2018). Extending from the left edge of the photo diagonally through the centre and towards the right edge is the ferry that dominates the photo. The starboard half of the stern and starboard side are in view with the camera being three metres above the water, ten metres from the stern and angled to the centre of the vessel. The dark and calm waters of the Vågsfjorden rise from the base of the photo to a little less than the half way up level. The only thing disturbing the water is the gentle, rippled wake from the ship moving forward at a dead slow speed. The ship has a black hull that stretches upwards four metres above the water. This is a black and white photo in landscape format looking up at five 57 story apartment blocks. To Kwa Wan, Hong Kong (2016). The camera is set back perhaps fifty metres from the buildings and angled upwards steeply so that the lower floors are hidden below the lower edge of the photo and no other buildings or objects are in view. While there are five blocks: each separate block appears as two blocks that are joined together at a corner. The blocks have a rectangular footprint and are tall and thin. Most of the blocks are viewed so that the thin and long side are in view. The thin sides have a white concrete face on one vertical half interrupted only by a single external air conditioning unit on each floor while the other half has large windows that extend into the corner. The long face of the block is a mix of neat and evenly spaced windows and balconies. This is an old night time colour photo in landscape format taken through a passenger window viewing over the wing of a Boeing 737 aircraft while it's being deiced. Oslo, Norway (2007). From the base of the photo and extending away towards the right side is the swept wing of this jet aircraft. This is a black and white water sports photo in landscape format of the rear of a surfboard protruding out of a brilliant white and swirling mass of foaming surf. Hermosa Beach (2014). The entire image is overflowing with the maelstrom of boiling surf from a breaking Pacific wave. The foaming water is brightly lit by the still low morning sun. Below the centre of the photo is the surfboard. The camera is located a few metres above and a few metres away from the board. Only the back and part of the mid section is visible, the remainder is hidden beneath the angry surf. The board is angled downwards towards the lower left corner, with it's edge angled towards the camera so little of the top or bottom surfaces are in view other than the one or two of the shark like fins on the underside of the board.

This is a colour street photo in landscape format of countless patterned red cubes suspended over a city street. New Bridge Road, Singapore (2013). Dominating nearly the entire photo are these multiple, bright red cubes. Each with a gold animal or Chinese character printed on the sides. The camera is located above the street and at the same level as the cubes with most of them being only a few metres away. Each cube is about one metre in all dimensions with them grouped together in their hundreds and suspended from poles or street lights high above the street. The animal pictures repeat numerous times: these include the traditional and compulsory Chinese dragon, Rabbit, Mouse and since it was the year of the Snake, a Snake. In the foreground and blurred gently out of focus are numerous shrubs, assorted vegetation and a medium sized tree with dark leaves dominating the left third of the photo. This is a black and white cityscape photo in landscape format of an old and weathered low-rise apartment building in the foreground and a very high-rise modern apartment building in the background. To Kwa Wan, Hong Kong (2017). In the foreground, stretching from the left edge of the photo diagonally downwards to the lower right corner, is the front facade of our mid twentieth century apartment block. In reality it's probably mixed use with businesses intertwined with residential spaces. The camera is located on the opposite side of the street, angled upwards and viewing along the front of the facade which appears to be made up of six or more closely spaced buildings with the ground floors hidden beneath the photo. Each block is heavily weathered and once may have been painted white. This is an abstract black and white photo in portrait format of an enormous framework of bamboo scaffolding surrounding the west side of the Hong Kong Convention Centre in Wan Chai (2014). Filling the entire photo is this vast frame of multiple poles of bamboo attached to each other with lengths of plastic binding straps. The camera is set back from the structure by no more than ten metres and is angled directly at the frame. The base, sides and top of the scaffold are out of view outside the edges of the photo. The bamboo is fashioned into squares of about one metre in length and height. Each pole overlaps the next pole by about two metres with that area secured using numerous binding straps similar or identical to those used to wrap a large package. In view are thirteen horizontal lengths and eight vertical poles. Behind those lengths at the front is a vast matrix of further poles extending towards the building. This is a black and white street photo in landscape format of an African-American man fishing with eight rods at the end of a small pier. Beyond is a SeaCat fast ferry underway and a moored cruise ship in the background. Long Beach, California (2015). Extending from the lower left corner to the middle of the photo and rising upwards to the half way up level are the weathered metal railings of a small pier with the wooden flooring just visible at the base of the image. Standing in the right corner of the pier (and in the centre of the photo) is our mid-twenties (very early thirties) African-American man.
