This is a black and white photo in landscape format of a modern submarine running on the surface with rising terrain in the background. Firth of Clyde (2017). The dark waters of the sea rise from the base of the photo upwards to a little less than the quarter up level. On a poorly defined horizon and below and to the left of centre is our submarine, underway from left to right and just above the surface. The camera is located a few metres above the water with the submarine being around one km away. The all black vessel is viewed in profile with the starboard (right) side in view. Water can be seen washing over the casing (top of the hull) with a short sensor above the deck aft of the bow. Further aft is the large fin (sometimes called the sail or conning tower) that's located a little forward of midships with two or three raised signal masts, radars or periscopes.
