We've been working diligently to get Client ready for release.

If naming our releases 'alpha' or 'rc' impeded you to update, now you are free to install.

As usual we are exercising this as a stage roll-out, so you can now expand Versions and install 2.0.

If it's the first time, or even the n-th time, you've heard about our new client work, you can read all the gritty details in the 15 mins post: https://f-droid.org/2026/09/24/f-droid-2.0-a-new-chapter-for-android-freedom.html

To everyone involved in delivering 2.0, a sincere "Thank You!"

What if we want to keep the classic look because it's more functional?

Seems to be good on my side 😉.

About of my F-Droid client, freshly updated.

@fdroidorg@floss.social I've been using this new update for a while now and everything is great. The only thing missing, at least for me, is the option to click on a category and see all the apps from that category, without having to choose one subcategory each time.
But that's a personal thing, I can always navigate each subcategory separately.
Anyway, great update, everything looks and works better.
Great work.

@fdroidorg@floss.social imagine my sursprise when the app I wanted to install (e1547) was banned by f-droid and is only available on the playstore and github (because it could potentially browse sites with adult content?!) meanwhile you have nitter apps that can browse X (twitter) which has an AI bot for undressing people

f-droid is not an alternative, it's even more restricted than the fucking play store and if anyone has a real alternative I'd love to hear about it

@fdroidorg@floss.social The new UI seems amazing! I love it!
But I do wonder why even on the new version I still get this message on F-Droid app itself 🤔

F-Droid pageof F-Droid app saying "Auto-update not available because this app was built for an old version of Android"

@fdroidorg@floss.social Is there an option to hide the repositories list behind an extra password?

As someone who manages the software for several family members, I am not really comfortable having the option to add repositories available to them that conveniently.

@fdroidorg@floss.social why does it say auto update is not available? It was like this for version 1.2x and my current 2.0.

I managed to update from 1.2 to 2.0 by allowing beta update. Turning beta update off, makes this message appear.

Where can I find the Permissions section inside the app description?

And will the new version at last be able to export (and re-import) my additional repositories? Such as droid-ify can do.

Tremendous milestone and another win for freedom, congratulations! Works also great on Jolla Phone / SailfishOS ✌️

@fdroidorg@floss.social I noticed F-Droid 2.0 has a "most downloaded" section. Which is great, but where does this info come from? Is it compatible with the publicly available download statistic standard (https://codeberg.org/IzzyOnDroid/iod-stats-builder) so users who use multiple repositories can have proper combined statistics for the most reliable and complete image of what is popular? I remember actively reaching out about this but not getting any response, would be a shame if this was done in an incompatible way :(

@fdroidorg@floss.social,

I have updated to the latest version. It looks very nice.

I am missing the "Permissions" section of an app's page. Is it really removed, or will it be added back gradually in a future release?

Thanks for the great work 🙂

@fdroidorg@floss.social Good work! For the next release I'm hoping for, from best to less good:

  1. GenAI ban in apps
  2. GenAI filtering (anti feature) in apps, default enabled
  3. GenAI filtering (anti feature) in apps, prompt for setting on first launch/update

How come the f droid app stopped showing which permissions an app asks for before installed on the new f droid app?
