The lamia is a small rural building, usually with a quadrangular or rectangular floor plan, characterized by a vaulted roof (often "barrel-vaulted" or "pavilion-vaulted") or sometimes a flat one. Historically, the lamia originated as a temporary shelter for farmers during periods of intense fieldwork or as a storage space for agricultural tools.
