A towering, mature conifer with heavily textured bark stands in a dense woodland surrounded by smaller trees. Its sprawling branches cast sun-dappled shadows on the forest floor with patches of moss.

An upright frame of pale grey mist in which a few dark vertical shapes stand faintly, most clearly a tall broad trunk left of centre and a thinner one to its right, both fading into the grey as they rise. Fainter vertical streaks appear further right and along the left edge. The tone shifts from lighter grey at the top, brightest in the upper left, to a darker charcoal grey along the bottom third, where all the shapes dissolve. There are no hard edges anywhere and the mist covers everything with a uniform soft grain. Black-and-white photograph on 35mm film, with visible grain.

Dans un sous-bois verdoyant, un immense arbre au tronc épais et noueux domine le sentier couvert de feuilles sèches. Ses grosses branches s’étendent largement sous la canopée encore verte, où quelques feuilles commencent à brunir. La lumière claire du ciel filtre entre les feuillages.

Ruhiger und schattiger Spaziergang am Fluss entlang. Die alten Bäume auf der rechten Seite und die Laternenreihe auf der linken Seite des Weges bilden eine Allee. Licht- und Schattenspiele sind an der steinernen Brüstung und auf dem befestigten Boden zu sehen. Im Mittelfeld sieht man eine Brücke und im Hintergrund sind auch große Bäume. A quiet, shady walk along the river. The old trees on the right and the row of streetlamps on the left form an avenue. Patterns of light and shadow play across the stone parapet and the paved path. A bridge is visible in the middle ground, with large trees in the background.
