This is one of my favorite plants in #Colorado. Gentiana algida (Arctic Gentian). It has an interesting holarctic distribution, including populations spanning Northern Asia and Alaska, with the Rocky Mountains being disjunct from the rest. In the Colorado Rockies, it grows at high elevation (10,000-14,000ft). I see it flowering every year in late Summer in sub-alpine meadows and alpine tundra ecosystems. #Bloomscrolling #Photography #Nature #Botany #Plants #Hiking #Alpine #RockyMountains

A map downloaded from GBIF showing orange and yellow hexagonal points that mark occurrences of Gentiana algida. There are populations spread throughout the northern hemisphere, but the Rocky Mountains region is distinctly separated from the rest of the populations. A dimunitive plant with densely bunched narrow leaves and a large white and purple goblet or bell shaped flowers.

Dr Gil, Uravan Town Physician
Reconstructing Uravan is a collaborative project examining the erased town of Uravan, Colorado, which supplied Marie Curie with radium and later processed uranium for cold war atomic programmes. In the 1980s, residents were relocated, and the buildings were buried. Central to the project are wet-plate collodion tintype portraits of former residents.

Calm, shadowed water bordered by angular rocks reflects a pale blue sky and an inverted blur of the grasses and willows that contain the far edge of the pool. Beyond the willows, a row of spikey pine trees stab upward into the last of the day's sunlight. Behind them, the rough and rocky slopes of a steep mountain ridge catch sunlight and shadow.
