a series of images of the sun, more and more covered up by the moon. in the center is an image of totality, and on the right end the sun is still partially covered by the moon but it's setting behind mountains, and we can see their shadow in front

Mijn eclips-avond. Ik wist al dat ik met mijn LX100 niet de zonsverduistering zelf kon vastleggen, maar ik ging meer voor het beleven van de avond en het vastleggen van het moment. (En ik nog een hoop leuke experimentele foto's gemaakt op zoek naar dingen die in die omstandigheden wél lukte.

Mensen op de rug gezien, in voornamelijk contouren. Ze kijken naar de zonsverduistering. De zon op de foto is door het gesloten diafragma goed te zien, maar veranderd in een soort ster met allemaal lange stralen die rondom de felle overbelichte bol naar buiten stralen.. Er omheen een kader van volkomen donkere bomen en bladeren. De lucht is door de instellingen ook donker alsof het nacht is. Mensen staan met eclipsbrillen en camera's naar een laag staande zon (buiten beeld) te kijken in warm licht aan de rand van een dorp. Op de voorgrond groot een bord met 'Driebergen-Rijsenburg' en daaronder een 'maximum snelheid 50 kilometer per uur' bord.

2026 looks to have been gorgeous, but with the heavenly beads of light on the mind and with me having been unable to go to Europe this year, the mind turns toward 2017, when the sunlight was particularly beautiful as it was "Shining Through the Valleys" of the Moon. Captured by me in Kentucky.

Schatten einer Hand an einer rauen Wand. Die Form erinnert an einen Tierkopf mit Geweih. An der Stelle, wo das Auge ist, fällt das Sonnenlicht durch ein mit der Hand gebildetet kleines Loch, wodurch nach dem Prinzip der Lichkamera die Sichel der durch den Mond teilweise verdeckten Sonne gespiegelt sichtbar wird. The shadow of a hand on a rough wall. The shape is reminiscent of an animal’s head with antlers. Where the eye would be, sunlight falls through a small hole formed by the hand, causing the crescent of the sun – partially obscured by the moon – to be reflected and visible, in accordance with the principle of a pinhole camera.

question: In theory, if I take a picture with my camera directly to the sun, it could damage the sensor. Let's say with a 18mm on an DSRL, so really 27mm for a 35mm equivalence.

Now assume I can zoom to 200/300mm. As I understand it, I'm actually spreading the Sun's image on a larger area, so it should damage the sensor less (not saying no damage at all), right?

And of course, one mostly takes pics of the Sun on sunrise/sunset, so the atmosphere takes most of the hit.
