I had dinner in downtown SLO, and it was getting COLD (60 something degrees F, which was cold for my sweaty summer cycling kit). Despite the cold, I had ice cream after dinner because it's my tradition after long bike rides (at least 100 km/62 miles for road cycling, but can be shorter for gravel because it takes more effort per mile, a lot of climbing, or a lot of hike-a-bike). I must have Rocky Road ice cream, because that's what I just rode. I biked + hiked 54 miles that day. New Yorkers, look, there's someone wearing a NYC subway shirt!

Almost back to downtown SLO, as if the way I post these photos in the last 3 miles show how my fatigue slowed time down. I fully biked out of the coastal fog. Downtown SLO has a different climate from Morro Bay and Los Osos.

A 2 lane paved road leads to a great mountain basking in the golden setting sun. The mountain has gentler slopes covered in dry yellow grass and valleys with green shrubs at the bottom, and rugged rocks and steep cliffs at the top. There's a car traveling on the road towards me.

After Bluff Trail at Montana de Oro, I biked back to downtown San Luis Obispo. All that hike-a-bike took me a long time, so it was getting dark when I approached SLO. The fog covered several miles by the coast. Approaching central SLO, I came to the edge of the fog. This varying microclimate is so fascinating!

A smaller conical mountain in front of a larger and wider mountain were illuminated by the golden afternoon sun. The mountains were largely covered in dry yellow grass and have green shrubs at higher altitudes and in the valleys. The mountains were just below dark clouds. At the foothills is farmlands and barns in the shade. There's a brown portapotty and a power line pylon on the right. There's a paved road in the foreground. Same scene, a bit more zoomed out

I was about to ride into the clouds again, on Hazard Canyon Rd before it turns to single track. I rode quite a long time before the trail became too technical for my gravel bike so I had to hike. This hike is much harder than that at Morro Bay State Park.
