At first glance I thought this starfish was dead like the hundreds of other ones we found at the beach, but then it started flailing its little suction tentacles around and we put it back in the water where hopefully the waves didn't instantly wash it back on land. This animal was tiny, the photo is at 1:1 magnification.

A tiny starfish with slightly orange colour lying on wet sand. Three of its arms are rolled up and onwards towards its center, a few of its many suction tentacles are stretched out, trying to find something to cling to.

This Sandwich tern parent apparently had enough of the constant chirping of its youngster on the right. 😄

A colony of paper wasps decided to build their nest in our garden, which was a nice opportunity to get to know them a bit. They are rather friendly and were ready to pose for a portrait.

Some paper wasps on their nest. It's a macro photo on great detail. The wasps have long orange antennas and orange legs and wings too. One is facing the camera and a few others are working behind it.

One of the lion's mane jellyfish we saw here so far. There are not many of them along the shoreline, but occasionally one of two drift into shallow water. Always fascinating to see.

Since everyone and their house fly already posted the eclipse, well, here's another one of the exact same sun in the exact same frame. The first photo has some trees in the frame, which was a nice addition for some extra depth.

But it was my first time working with special foil, crafting a homemade filter and setting it all up. That was a cool new experience!

A composite image of six different stages of a partial eclipse, where around 90 percent of the sun was hidden behind the moon.
