Taken in late November last year, this is a close-up of what I've only ever known as a "paper-bark tree." I remember seeing these trees as a kid and trying to peel the largest layer of the thinnest sheet that I could, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one.
While it appears pale at first glance, the bark hides a surprising range of colours from honey blondes to deep mauves, bordering on beet tones in some areas.
Part of me wants to look up the proper name of the tree, and part of me suspects that there's an even chance it's unpronounceable or mundane (like the paper-bark tree - wouldn't that be an anti-climax...)
